Learning unit contents

  • CEFRL level of the course : A2+ / B1

Study of the vocabulary and the main chapters of Dutch grammar through grammar (drill) exercises, reading, writing, speaking and listening activities.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This is the second year of an optional programme. The final objective is written and oral practice of everyday Dutch.
The second part focuses on a basic knowledge of Dutch grammar and vocabulary.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

A basic knowledge of oral and written Dutch is required (see description 1st year).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Reading and listening comprehension, grammar and vocabulary exercises, debates, written assignments, etc. from files available online, cf. "support de cours", PARTIM I

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

1 hour every week It is possible to follow @lter Basic at the same time.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral and written exam at the end of the year. The written exam will be composed of grammar and vocabulary exercises, as well as writing exercises.
The oral exam will be about one text chosen by the student from the Dutch press (3 pages). Students should subscribe for the oral exam before the end of April via email. They have to communicate the text they have chosen before this deadline, otherwise they will not be allowed to take this part of the oral exam. Attention: the same text cannot be chosen by more than 1 student!
In case of a second session, the written and oral exam will take place on the same day. Students should subscribe for the oral exam. They can keep the same text as in June.
ATTENTION: an absence to one of the two parts of the exam = 0 for both parts.

Adaptation of teaching commitments following the COVID-19 pandemic for the May-June 2020 session

Teaching methods implemented : distance-learning

Face-to-face courses have been replaced by:
 
- the sending of the corrected answers on myuliege...
 
- the possibility for students to complete several additional assignments at home and send them to the teacher for correction
 
- creation of a DISCORD network with text chat rooms (forums) to allow students to ask questions directly, related to the subject matter
 
- live" sessions via a DISCORD vocal lounge organised every week instead of the face-to-face course: review of the material (reading of texts, debates, explanations, etc.) and question-and-answer session.

Assessment subjects

1. The article chosen by the student: questions of content, opinion and vocabulary
2. Chapters 3 and 4 of the course: questions of content and opinion on the topics covered + questions of vocabulary: synonyms, opposites, definitions, translations, etc.

Adaptation of teaching commitments following the COVID-19 pandemic for the Aug-Sept 2020 session

Assessment subjects

Students will be questioned orally on:
- the press text they will have chosen (2-3 pages, dated of the current academic year): content, opinion, vocabulary.
- the vocabulary of chapters 3 and 4 of the syllabus: synonyms, opposites, translations, definitions, etc.
- the content of chapters 3 and 4 of the syllabus: the student must be able to summarize or give his/her opinion on the topics dealt with in the files.
 

Assessment methods

Oral examination online on the FNovakovic network via the DISCORD platform. Please register by e-mail for the exam, and join Discord if you had not done so in May/June.
