The course is organized every two years. It is not organized in 2017-2018.
This residential seminar is organized during one week in Paris (during Easter holidays). The seminar is focussed on the balance between strategic HR orientations and local adaptations in global firms. It is based on visits of companies and meetings with HR academics and professionals. ATTENTION: FOR LOGISTICAL REASONS, THE ADMISSIONS TO THIS SEMINAR ARE LIMITED TO 20 PARTICIPANTS. THE SELECTION OF APPLICANTS WILL BE BASED ON A FORM, PRESENTING THEIR PROJECT OF MASTER THESIS. THIS FORM MAY BE DOWNLOADED ON http://lola.hec.ulg.ac.be (under the course title). IT MUST BE SENT TO FANNY FOX BEFORE OCTOBER 1st (F.Fox@ulg.ac.be(F.fox@ulg.ac.be). ALL STUDENTS WILL BE PERSONALLY INFORMED ABOUT THEIR SELECTION AND, IF NECESSARY, THEY WILL RECEIVE EXTRA TIME IN ORDER TO CHOOSE ANOTHER COURSE.)

- Confronting theories, managerial discourses and observations on the field
- Synthetising the results of an empirical investigation in a structured way, likely to be read by professionals

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
This intensive seminar is organized during the first week of the Easter holidays at Paris (France). Three preliminary meetings will be organized in order to prepare the theme which will be explored. The seminar is focussed on the balance between strategic HR orientations and local adaptations in global firms. The participants will have the opportunity to visit companies like Axa, Carrefour, Alstom, L'Oréal, SNCF, etc. and to compare the visions of corporate and local HR managers. The students will have to write a synthesis report. The structure of this report will be discussed during the preliminary meetings. It will be transmitted to the HR managers met during the seminar. A financial contribution will be asked to the participants for the travel and accommodation expenses (between 150 and 200 euros).

Assessment methods and criteria
Presentation and discussion of a paper (either individual or group work according to the number of participants)
Group presentation on a thema to explore during the week in Paris
Writing a synthesis report on the visited companies and one specific theme
