Learning unit contents :
This course aims to introduce students to the major key concepts of psychology of disability ( through the main international classifications.


The main areas of this discipline will be discussed:
  • screening,
  • genetic counseling
  • prenatal diagnosis,
  • announcement of disability
  • early intervention,
  • education and integration,
  • quality of life
  • adulthood.
We will review different types of disabilities (intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, etc.) and the characteristics of supported.
 A particular focus will be on the genetic intellectual disability and intersyndromic differences.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
At the end of the course, students will gain awareness of the main characteristic of the psychological development of people with physical or mental disabilities and will have a better understanding of the psychological issues of interventions and of the role of the professionals in the follow up of people with disabilities.

The course will appeal to concepts taught in Language and Cognition (partim I)
