Learning unit contents
This course aims to familiarize students with entrepreneurship and innovation as a driving force of our economy and society, beyond the sole creation of new enterprises. Students will get acquainted with different forms of entrepreneurship and innovation (including for example corporate entrepreneurship) and explore the main challenges associated with different steps of the entrepreneurial process. These challenges will be 1) examined in the light of core concepts and theories on entrepreneurship and innovation, and 2) experienced by students through a group project that will follow the Disciplined Entrepreneurship approach.
Beyond providing conceptual background and getting inspired by guest speakers and examples, the course also aims to equip students in discovering concrete avenues of entrepreneurship and innovation, to consider their own involvement in an entrepreneurial process based on their values, expertise, future career plans, and societal needs and expectations.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- locate and understand different forms of entrepreneurship and innovation;
- understand the different steps of the entrepreneurial process (as described in the course);
- understand the crucial role of human agency in the entrepreneurial process;
- identify the challenges at different steps of the entrepreneurial process and connect them with relevant theoretical lenses and tools that can help addressing them;
- identify leverage points in an entrepreneurial project for regeneration and societal value creation;
- evaluate the relevance and solidity of an entrepreneurial project both as a stand-alone object and by comparing with other projects.
