Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The aim of this course is to prepare students for their future careers as physical education teachers. This first part focuses more specifically on the general principles of physical education teaching. It builds on the concepts acquired in previous courses, such as "Basics of Intervention," "Educational Activities," "Internships," and all teaching activities related to teacher training that students have completed.

This course has several objectives :

  • To enable students to understand the place of physical education in schools, as well as their role in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, both in and outside of school.
  • Provide information on the responsibilities of teachers.
  • Illustrate the pedagogical principles to be applied in secondary education.
  • Provide a diverse range of practical experience in a school environment.
  • Encourage students to adopt a reflective and constructive attitude towards their teaching practice.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

This course draws on concepts covered throughout the program and also builds on students practical experiences.

All specific courses in the initial Physical Education/Motor Skills program form the basis on which this course is built.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Sessions are organized in such a way as to combine a theoretical lesson with a seminar or practical workshop, which illustrates the content of the teaching. Interactive activities are offered in order to establish a direct link between theoretical and practical concepts. Flipped classrooms are also organized. Students are strongly encouraged to update their notes as the course progresses so that they can use the content in their practical work in the field.
