Learning unit contents

Religions and secularism are fundamental components of our contemporary societies, with all the issues they raise and the challenges they pose. They are also concepts forged by researchers who use them as subjects for scientific investigation. Understanding how these "objects" were formed requires:

- a historical approach that covers the stages of this "objectification," from antiquity to the present day, including the crucial stages of humanism and the Reformation (V. Pirenne-Delforge and A. Delfosse)

- and a philosophical approach that provides a critical reflection on this process (E. Delruelle). Spinoza's Theological-Political Treatise occupies a privileged place here.
