Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The course sessions will address the issue of classroom management that promotes a calm atmosphere and positive teacher/student relationships using methods validated by scientific research (evidence-based approach). A combination of theoretical presentations and practical activities will be offered throughout the sessions.

The issue of diversity will be addressed through additional readings. The aim will be to take a critical look at the concept of diversity. Once this introduction has been covered, issues of equality based on gender, socioeconomic status, and immigration status will be addressed.

As part of the practical work, students will have the opportunity to experiment with a teaching/learning approach that aims to take advantage of student heterogeneity while using highly codified group management routines. This approach also provides an opportunity to position oneself as an active and reflective citizen in relation to our education system. Students must be available on two consecutive Saturdays for these compulsory practical sessions.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

- Create a positive classroom environment;

- Reduce the likelihood of problematic behaviors occurring and respond to them effectively;

- Maximize students' learning time.

- Master in depth and critically a body of scientific knowledge from the educational sciences and various disciplines related to the educational sciences.

- Argue a position on an educational issue.

- Communicate orally and in writing on complex topics related to education, according to specific communication standards.

- Engage in respectful and constructive dialogue and interaction with a variety of interlocutors, demonstrating listening skills, open-mindedness, detachment, and assertiveness.

- Integrate and collaborate effectively within a team, participating in a responsible and supportive manner.

- Adopt a stance as an actor aware of their social responsibility.

- Analyze the societal challenges and effects of educational practices.
