This course provides students with basic information on the organization of the psychological examination, how to conduct an interview with a patient, methods of observation, how to use standardized tests, how to read norms, how to write a report.

The Psychological Examination: Its progress from the anamnesis to the delivery of the conclusions

Professional development of the psychologist: Towards an integrated and well-reasoned practice

At the university, there are several opportunities for students to understand and develop evidence-based practice. This course is one of them.
The aim of this theoretical and practical training is to enable the student to understand what evidence-based practice is and to initiate its application to a fictitious clinical case.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Practices in interview, exam and observation techniques

The course is designed to provide students with the basics of psychological examination, interviewing and observation. At the end of this course, the student will be able to use professional communication to take a history, to make an initial analysis of the results obtained using established standards and to have a critical view of the conclusions reached.
The student will be familiar with the modalities and techniques of the clinical psychology interview.

Professional development of the psychologist: Towards an integrated and well-reasoned practice

The objectives of the course will be to initiate the development of skills necessary for clinical decision making integrating valid data from scientific research, clinical experience, patient preferences and the environmental and organisational context. The main topics covered will be:

  • evidence-based practice and the different sources of internal and external information;
  • search for scientific evidence;
  • critical analysis of scientific publications;
  • evaluation of the effectiveness of the intervention.

Assessment methods and criteria

Exam(s) in session

Any session

- In-person

written exam ( multiple-choice questionnaire, open-ended questions )

Additional information:

The final grade for the unit PSYC1008 is based on the grade for PSYC1008-B-a and the grade for PSYC1008-A-c. The student has to obtain a minimum grade of 10/20 for each course. If a student fails one of the courses, the final grade will be the failing grade. If the student fails both courses, the final grade will be the mean of the deficient grades (with a weighting taking into account the ECTs - 40% for PSYC1008-B-a and 60% for PSYC1008-A-c).

If the student passes both courses, the final grade will be the average of the two grades (with a weighting taking into account the ECTs - 40% for PSYC1008-B-a and 60% for PSYC1008-A-c).

In the second semester, the student will only have to retake the deficient course.

Exam(s) in session

Any session

- In-person

written exam ( multiple-choice questionnaire, open-ended questions )

Additional information:

The final score is based on a written exam that consists of a first part with closed questions (multiple choice questions; out of 10 points) and a second part with open questions (out of 10 points). The student has to obtain a minimum score of 5/10 in each part. In case of failure in the first part (MCQ), the final score will correspond to this failing score and the second part (OQ) will not be corrected by the teacher. During the consultation session, the expected answers (including for the second part, OQ) will be explained to the students present at this session. If the student fails only the second part (QO), the final score will correspond to this failing grade and the student will have to repeat all the parts in the second session. If you pass both parts, the final score will be the average of the two scores.
