The course " État d'avancement" consists in the close supervision of the students in the definition and the elaboration of their problematic of their end-of-study work (TFE or TFE project), according to the scientific requirements of a university level and the specificities of the research in architecture. To do this, the course ensures the familiarisation of students with scientific research by putting it into practice, in the continuity of the "Methodology of research in architecture" course (master, Q1).
- At the end of the course, each student will have written a text stating precisely the problematic of his/her TFE or TFE project following an outline successively:
- A title summarising the chosen subject;
- The precise definition of the subject;
- The statement of the main research question, the possible sub-questions and, if necessary, the underlying research hypotheses;
- The elaboration of a state of the art relating to the subject;The choice of the methodology and the research field, with arguments;
- A documented bibliography related to the problematic, including at least the readings to be carried out and notably recent references from scientific databases;
- A work plan specifying the stages of development of the TFE or TFE project in Master 2.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Au terme du cours, l'étudiant(e) sera capable de :
- Rédiger une problématique de recherche ;
- Identifier et cerner un sujet de TFE;
- Définir une question de recherche relative à un sujet clairement identifié de TFE ou TFE projet ;
- Réaliser un état de l'art ;
- Déterminer une méthodologie et un terrain adaptés à sa question de recherche ;
- Résumer et rédiger correctement la synthèse du sujet et de la question de sa recherche ;
- Apprécier la valeur scientifique des sources documentaires liées à son sujet et en établir une critique suivant les règles d'élaboration d'un état de l'art ;
- Appliquer les contenus théoriques du cours de « Méthodologie de recherche en architecture » (master, Q1) à sa problématique de TFE ou TFE projet.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Le cours suppose que l'étudiant(e) ait :
- parfaitement intégré les contenus du cours de « Méthodologie de recherche en architecture » (master, Q1) ;
- une bonne compréhension du fonctionnement de la bibliothèque ;
- une capacité rédactionnelle nécessaire à l'écriture d'un travail scientifique
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The elaboration of the TFE problematic or TFE project constitutes the main thread of the course, each session aiming at its progressive construction. Depending on the subjects and contents covered, the course is given/organised either in plenary sessions or in groups, in the logic of working seminars. To ensure dynamic exchanges and active learning, three teaching methods are used: the flipped classroom, collaborative learning and the adapted classroom
Flipped classroom: The students prepare the sessions before the course, by getting to know the content or by preparing assignments. During the session, they mobilise this material by practising research methodologies in exercises, discussing concepts or by writing up the problem.
Collaborative learning: The sessions are partly devoted to collective exchanges. These exchanges concern, for example, texts read, the construction of research questions, the state of the art, methodological choices, writing work, etc.
Adapted class: Given the eminently individual nature of a TFE problem, the support is of course partially personalised. This is done, for example, by imposing or suggesting certain readings, resource persons and specific research activities, or by adapting the process of constructing the problematic.

L'évaluation s'établit par l'appréciation d'un travail intermédiaire et d'un travail final, suivant des modalités et une pondération qui seront communiquées aux étudiants lors de la première séance. Elle porte sur :
- La qualité de la problématique (sujet, hypothèses, questions, objectifs, etc.) ;
- L'adéquation de la problématique par rapport au format TFE ou TFE projet en architecture et aux critères scientifiques ;
- L'adéquation et la qualité des sources mobilisées par rapport à la problématique ;
- L'adéquation et la qualité de l'état de l'art par rapport à la problématique ;
- L'adéquation de la méthodologie par rapport à la problématique ;
- La qualité de la justification des choix ;
- Les précisions et détails des étapes de recherche ;
- La qualité du plan de travail ;
- Le respect des conventions scientifiques de référencement ;
- La précision sémantique ;
- La qualité rédactionnelle (orthographe, grammaire, forme et structuration des propos).
Les documents déposés en retard ne seront pas pris en compte lors de l'évaluation. L'étudiant(e) qui n'a pas déposé son travail ou qui ne respecte pas les délais se verra attribuer une note de 0/20.

Organizational remarks
During the seminar sessions, the students will be divided into groups, according to modalities to be specified during the course.
Students are required to be aware of the deadlines for submission of intermediate and final work. This information will be communicated to students by the teachers of the TFE progress course at the beginning of the second term. In order to ensure good management at the practical, didactic and administrative levels, students must respect the deadlines.
