Le cours de méthodologie de recherche vise à initier les étudiant.e.s au processus de recherche en architecture. Il constitue une introduction au cours de « État d'avancement » (master, Q2), en posant les bases nécessaires à l'élaboration du travail de fin d'étude (TFE ou TFE projet) ;
- Qu'est-ce que faire de la recherche ?
- Qu'est-ce qu'une problématique de recherche ?
- Quelles sont les étapes d'un travail de recherche ?
- Quelles sont les différentes méthodologies et quels sont les outils à disposition nécessaires à l'élaboration d'une démarche de recherche en architecture ?
- Quels sont leurs spécifiés, leurs apports, leurs limites ?
- Introduction part 1 : Typologies de recherche, catégories de recherche en architecture, démarches de recherche, TFE et TFE projet, état de l'art, méthodologie, plan de travail, plan de rédaction

Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- Identify and understand the main specificities of the different types of research (fundamental, project, applied, historical, action, etc.);
- Identify and understand the main specificities of the different research approaches (inductive, deductive, etc.) and the different categories of research in architecture;
- Understand the different methodological perspectives presented in the thematic sessions;
- Identify and understand the organization of the different parts of a scientific production (article, book, TFE...) namely: the research question, the state of the art, the methodological principles, the paradigms used and the main results;
- Appreciate the scientific value of documentary sources and scientific research methodologies;
- To master the referencing system and the codes for the elaboration of a bibliography;
- To carry out a documentary research.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
- Ten 4-hour face-to-face sessions combining, depending on the session, lectures and practical exercises;
- Interaction during the course (wooclap, etc.);
- Reading and comprehension of texts in preparation for certain sessions, in a reversed class logic;
- If necessary, assignments and tests are to be submitted online on eCampus according to the methods and deadlines indicated by the teachers.

Recommended or required readings
- Presentation slides, readings and various sources are provided for each on eCampus.
- Texts to be read or lectures to be listened to in preparation for certain sessions are provided one week in advance. They are available online on eCampus.
- A bibliography adapted to the content of the course is provided in the session.

The assessment will be open book, with practical exercises including
- The identification and understanding of the specificities and the different parts of scientific productions;
- The understanding of the different methodological perspectives presented in class, their specificities, contributions and limits in relation to a research question;
- The realization of a documentary research taking into account the appreciation of the scientific value of the sources and their relevance with regard to a given research question; The realization of a state of the art;
- The ability to identify a research topic and to discuss possible methodological perspectives;
- The respect of scientific referencing conventions, the elaboration of bibliographies.
