Contents are :
1. Visual perception and its mechanisms.
2. Efficacy of media : what the research says.
3. Choice of media according training needs.

- Encoding and decoding pictures + media processes applied to texts and images
-on various supports (leaflets, booklets, posters, videos, PPT) and
-measurement of their effects (impacts) on factors such as A (Affectivity, Attitudes), S (Skills), C (Cognition), I (Identity, self-Image, metacognition) and D (Decision, intentions, volition).

Students will be able to
C1. Analyse existing AV messages (and if necessary improve their quality or conceive their use in order to maximize their intended effects)
C2. Conceive AV messages acording to specified objectives (and define these objectives in an operational format)
C3. Measure the (cognitive, affective and conative) effects fo AV messages on various types of target populations
RESOURCES involved:
R1. Master concepts (and apply them on authetic cases) related to
-learning and audio-visual media and use them to solve real problems.
-evaluation methods (measurement methods, instruments and statistical and grafical processing of data).
R2. Analyse articles in scientific journals and research reports (on the educational impact of audiovisual messages) and judge of relevance of the experimental design and instruments.

E exercises dealing with (1) the analysis of pictures (illustrated texts, posters) and of videos, (2) the conception of methods to measure their educational impact, (3) the improvement of their educational quality, (4) data coolection in experimental setting and (5) analysis of reports on this topic.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Course mainly presential (5 to 6 classes lasting each 3 hours), with home work (flipped classes) to be sent by mail before deadlines.

Assessment methods and criteria
The final note will sum (see details in the handbook page 261)
- Homework (Readability 20% ; experimet 30% ; Observations related to theory 20%)
-during the presential written exam, a part is an open books exam (interpretation of iconic messages) and the aother part is a closed books exam (knowledge and comprehension of theories and technical terminology 20%).
