Learning unit contents
In this sequence of lessons, the various cognitive developmental disorders will be presented and illustrated using behavioral and neuroimaging data. This course will review attention and executive disorders, memory disorders, social cognition impairment, and specific learning disorders (dyscalculia and dyspraxias) as opposed to a global intellectual disabilities . These problems will be addressed in the context of major neurodevelopmental disorders including: (1) genetic syndromes (eg Williams or velocardiofacial syndrome), (2) developmental disorder (eg, disorders of attention hyperactivity disorder ), (3) learning disorders (dyslexia and dyscalculia), (4) psychiatric disorders (the cases of autism) and (5) in the case of clearly identifiable lesions or brain diseases (for example, the case of children with cerebral palsy, epileptic children or head trauma). The impact of psycho-affective disorders on cognitive functioning of children will be discussed.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
After this sequence of courses, students will be familiar with the main types of cognitive disorders that constitute the reasons for consultation in pediatric neurology. He will be able to make assumptions based on a complaint and to identify the cognitive disorders presented by children with learning difficulties or those with neurodevelopmental disorders.
