The Sociology of Employment course aims to train students in the sociological analysis of forms of employment and employment statutes
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
By the end of the course, students will be able to :
- Identify the controversies in the literature
- Understand the concepts, methodological principles and the many facets of research.
- Apply these concepts and principles to the analysis of empirical cases
- Establish links between different theoretical, methodological and empirical elements
- Criticise or evaluate certain theoretical and/or normative positions
- Produce a tightly worked argument on a theoretical question

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
The course, focus on the sociology of employment and unemployment, presents and is structured around three theoretical approaches: - the cognitive approach, centred on the reference systems of employment policies; - the institutional approach, open to international comparison between the different employment systems; - the pragmatic approach, which depends on the processes for implementing employment policies.

In terms of didactic support, students will rely mainly on a set of texts compiled during classes

The assessment of the students' work will consist of an oral exam, based on the course
