Learning unit contents
The sociology of the education showed for a long time how much individual characteristics such as genre, immigration status or social and cultural origin could generate school inequalities. We will see how the notions of equality and equity may be applied to education. Then, we will connect the question of inequality of school access, careers and results in connection with the individual characteristics of the students. Finally, during the practical class, the students will have the opportunity to experiment a teaching/ learning programme aimed at maximizing the benefits from the heterogeneousness of the students.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At then end of the course, the students will have to be able:
- To master a body of scientific knowledge from the educational sciences and disciplines around education science.
- To argue a position regarding an education issue.
- To communicate orally and in writing on complex issues relating to education, according to specific communication standards.
- To communicate and interact respectfully and constructively by demonstrating listening skills , openness , assertiveness and distancing .
- To integrate and work effectively within a team, get involved in a responsible and supportive way.
- To adopt a posture of actor aware of its social responsibility.
- To analyze the issues and societal effects of teaching practices.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The theoretical course will be based on oral presentations supported by power points. Documentary resources/scientific papers will be put at the disposal of the students, some as compulsory readings, some as ressources. Practical class will allow the students to experiment and criticize an educational situation.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Face-to-face.
Attendance at practical work (the first week of the Easter holidays, either April, 8-9th or April, 10-11th)) is mandatory. Another proposal will be offered to some students (for instanc, students employed during this period).
Recommended or required readings
Notes and bibliographical references will be put at the disposal of the students via e-campus.
Assessment methods and criteria
The theoritical part will be assessed via a written examination.
Practical part : the assessement will include the participation to mandatory lessons (two days during the second week of Eastern time, no possibiliy of second session) and a personal thought on those pratical lessons.
