All year long, with partial in January
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The course will be essentially dedicated to the practical realization of a quantitative survey, form the formulation of the basic hypotheses until the production of a short report commenting the main results. The ten ours of theory will be dedicated to emphasize and develop the theoretical elements needed, in particular techniques of sampling and building of variables, such as they were introduced in the course "survey methodology"
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Following skills will be used during the course :
- Scientific literature review
- Formulation of the research question
- Realization of a survey questionnaire
- Choosing an sample
- Fieldwork for the survey
- Presentation of the results
- Writing a paper about the results
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Good knowledge of the course of "survey methodology" : indicators, variables, sampling
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Realization of the survey will be led in small groups, under the supervision of Sebastien Fontaine
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Theorical courses will take place at the beginning of the year. Practical realization of the survey will be launched at the beginning of the year and the reports are due for the beginning of the june session.
Recommended or required readings
There will be no new content. This course is the practical application of the ourse of "survey methodology".
In january, there will be a compulsory test on the main notions of survey methodology.
Assessment methods and criteria
A written examination on theoretical elements and revisions will take place during the month january. He will count for 25 % of the final note.
The rest (75 % ) will be attributed do the survey report.
ATTENTION : to get the credit of the course, students must receive a note of AT LEAST 8/20 on EACH of the two partS of the exam :
- written exam in january
- practical realisation of the survey
In case the student gets less than 8/20 for ANY of the two parts of the exam, he will get a maximum of 7/20 as a giobal note. The note of the part that has been passed will be "kept aside" until the student get AT LEAST 8/20 for BOTH parts of the exam (and of course, of total of 10 or more).
The effective realization of the survey is a condition of the final success
Any fraud in the realization of the survey will lead to a note of zero for the whole course.
