Learning unit contents
This seminar is in the form of a practical reflection workshop focused on the relations between humanities' subjects and topical issues.
There are four modules:
- Gender and sexual identity
- Current professions associated with the humanities
- The nuclear question
- Follow-up of the students' work
In the fourth module, students are invited to take stock of the progress of their field investigation, the difficulties encountered, the work hypotheses, and the initial results.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The seminar allows students to identify concrete implementations of the investigation's motif and to have an overview of the different ways in which the humanities relate to current events.
It also allows them to share work in progress, and aims to develop reflective and communication skills, particular to team work.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Have a good grounding in the Philosophy and Letters subjects.

Collegiate seminar, comprised of four modules in a variety of forms:
- 25 Oct. 2017, 20:00, TURLg // Gender and sexual identity: lecture followed by a debate.
- 6 Dec. Current professions associated with the humanities: round table with professionals
- Q2 (date to be agreed) // The nuclear question: study day
- Q2 (dates to be agreed) // Follow-up of students' work: seminar sessions

Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment will be based on a personal piece of work.
The latter will consist of identifying a topical issue, compiling a collection of varied texts about it, and explaining how the humanities could problematize this issue.
This work will be physically handed in to the seminar's leaders and will also be the subject of an oral presentation to a collective jury composed of the seminar's leaders.
The assessment criteria are as follows:
- relevance and originality of the topical issue
- formal completion of the wor
- ability to give an oral commentary about the work.

Organizational remarks
Students will meet on Wednesday 20/09/2017 at 16:30, room 5/16 for an introductory meeting, where they will be given all the information concerning the seminar's organisation.
First lesson: Wednesday 04/10/2017 at 16:00, room Lumière
Conference by Patrice Maniglier, "Who is materialistic ?".
Followed by a discussion on Marc Monaco's work (Toxcity).
