Learning unit contents
In the field of the local development, the advised political way is to make a break with the top-down processes for going to more participative processes, in order to solve the local problems.
By working together with all the skateholders concerned, the hope is to obtain better solutions by the negociation, new, more adapted to the context and more sustainable.
That new decision and territorial management process, named "territorial governance", asks often a mediation by a person who has some pedagogical competences. The geographers can play that role, may be.
The aim of the course is to clarify the profile of that kind of person and to initiate the students to the use of some tools and methods that are judged as efficient.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
1. To be able to draw the stakes of a local governance system observed, its potential trumps, its limits and the obstacles to be cleared for a good participation.
2. To use some pedagogical grids to conceive or to analyze an observed accompaniment strategies in the field of the governance.
3. To describe and criticize some territorial mediation tools - 10 of them would be "geographics".
4. To conceive original tools.
5. To drive successfully some participative sequences.

The students must participate : learning by experiencing methods and tolls, and by reflexive analysis.
Through the practices, it will be for the students the opportunity :
- to meet some experienced people, in various contexts;
- to know some methods and tools by experience.

Assessment methods and criteria
The students will have to produce a report with a presentation and a critical analysis of a methodological strategy used for an organization working in the field of the territorial governance. The report will have 10 pages, not included the annexes.

Organizational remarks
Etant donné l'implication active des étudiants dans un projet de territoire réel, qui engage la responsabilité de l'université, la présence à tous les cours est obligatoire. Si un étudiant fait défaut, il peut se voir refuser l'accès à l'examen.
