Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

Course content :

  • The composition and analysis of feed
  • The digestion of feeds in the pig, the bird and the ruminant
  • The metabolism of nutrients
  • The evaluation of feeds : energy and protein value in the pig and the ruminant
  • Water and feed intake

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This course aims at giving the basic prnciples of animal nutrition, their application and the current knowledge of feed digestion and nutrient metabolism in farm animals
After completing the course the student is expected to :

  • understand and utilize nutrition scientific vocabulary,
  • understand the basis of farm animal nutrition
  • be able to interact in a general discussion in the field of animal nutrition.
This course contributes to the acquisition of the following skills:
  • Identify relevant qualitative and quantitative information related to an agronomic process
  • Adapt existing solutions, taking into account their performance and technical, environmental and economic constraints, in response to a bioengineering problem
  • Identify limiting parameters of a process or a system

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

BIOL2010-1 - Cellular biology
CHIM9239-2 - Biological molecules chemistrys
BIOL2011-1 - Comparative animal anatomy and physiology
