Presentation
The Belgo-Vietnamian inter-university diploma such as the post-University Masters in Family/general medicine / post-University Certificate in family/general medicine prepares for the practice of family/general medicine.
This course is the equivalent of a post-University Masters, although it does not grant any rights to practice medicine in Belgium or Europe. It includes theoretical courses, clinical internships, seminars supporting medical practice, and drafting and defending a thesis.
Students carry out clinical internships exclusively in Vietnam, in family/general medical surgeries, in primary healthcare centres and in hospital departments which are relevant for the future practice of general/family medicine under the guidance of internship supervisors who are jointly recognised by the two partner departments.
Special conditions of access
- be a doctor authorised to practice in Vietnam
- have passed an entrance examination specifically for the Belgo-Vietnamian inter-university diploma such as the post-University Masters in Family Medicine - General Medicine / post-University certificate in Family Medicine - General Medicine, organised by the two partner departments.
Duration of the training
  • Two years of study for students holding a specific Certificate in General Medicine awarded by the ULg (200 hours of theory in general medicine given at the ULg, passing relevant exams and 12 months of specific internship).
  • Three years of study for students who have only followed 200 hours of theory classes in general medicine given by the ULg and having passed the relevant exams.
The student who is not in the situations aforementioned has to :
  • either get the specific certificate of general medicine awarded by the ULg (200 hours in general medicine given at the ULg and passing relevant exams, and 12 months of specific placement). Then, he will be allowed to follow the 1st year of Belgo-Vietnamian inter-university diploma such as the post-University Masters in Family Medicine - General Medicine / post-University certificate in Family Medicine - general medicine in 2 years ;
  • or follow the 200 hours in general medicine (not a specific certificate in general medicine). Then, he will be allowed to follow the 1st year of Belgo-Vietnamian inter-university diploma such as the post-University Masters in Family Medicine - General Medicine / post-University certificate in Family Medicine - general medicine in 3 years.

Assessment
The Belgo-Vietnamian inter-university diploma such as the post-University Masters in Family/general medicine / post-University Certificate in family/general medicine, is delivered to medical doctors who are authorised to practice in Vietnam who
  • have participated actively over the year in 80% of seminars accompanying medical practice and met the requirements for passing the seminars
  • have participated annually in 80% of theory classes given (complementary courses to the basic theoretical courses) and have met the requirements for passing the relevant exam
  • have met the requirements for passing a final thesis presented before a jury made up of members of the two partner departments.

Candidates must be students within the two partner universities
