Learning unit contents

Management of emergency situations, alone and without material (first aid), and as part of a team and using material (Immediate Life Support).

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the training, the student will be able to:
Perform a high quality CPR, with the help of a EAD (pediatric and adult).
Manage an adult patient suffering from an obstruction of the airway.
Apply the general principles of advanced CPR (ILS):


  • Structured collection and transmission of informations
  • General algorithm of ILS-ALS
  • Recognition of cardiac rhythm that can beneficiate from defibrillation.
  • Use of first line pharmacological treatments of resuscitation (oxygen, epinephrin, amiodarone)
  • Team work
  • Management of the airway

Additional information:

Introductory practical session :
During the session, participants will review the principles of team first aid that were delivered during B1 and B3.
There will be an introduction to advanced resuscitation, which will allow a first approach to the ILS-ALS algorithm.
Individual learning of the ERC book :
An individual autonomous learning of the ILS book will be performed by the students. This book is proved to students through myULiege.
Two practical session (ILS learning) :
Two practical sessions will be provided to the students on the same day, corresponding to a standard ILS session. A specific evaluation at the Conseils Belge et Européen de Réanimation (BRC-ERC) will allow students to obtain, independently from the university curriculum, an european ILS certificate (this certification will not influence the academic score).
Evaluation
An online theoretical evaluation using multiple choice questions will be performed.
