Organisation and examination
All year long, with partial in January
Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
Management of emergency situations, alone and without material (first aid), and as part of a team and using material (Immediate Life Support).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the training, the student will be able to:
Perform a high quality CPR, with the help of a EAD (pediatric and adult).
Manage an adult patient suffering from an obstruction of the airway.
Apply the general principles of advanced CPR (ILS):
- Structured collection and transmission of informations (SBAR, SAMPLE, OPQRSTU,...)
- General algorithm of ILS-ALS
- Recognition of cardiac rhythm that can beneficiate from defibrillation
- Use of first line pharmacological treatments of resuscitation (oxygen, epinephrin, amiodarone)
- Team work
- Management of the airway
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Blended learning
Further information:
1° The online activities begin with an introductory video on advanced resuscitation, accompanied by slides and a manual.
The first step is therefore to assimilate these theoretical concepts.
2° The first practical session will allow you to reactivate your knowledge and skills in resuscitation, both individually and as part of a team, using adult manikins and equipment. The ABCDE approach will also be practiced in a hands-on manner. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions related to the theoretical content of the course.
3° Several online activities must be completed before the second practical session:
A. For the next virtual stage, we have set up a "rhythm simulator" with three levels to work through.
Based on the knowledge acquired during the first step, and within a limited time, you must decide whether the displayed rhythm should be defibrillated or not.
You can undergo these activities as many times as you wish.
B. Once you have learned to quickly recognize shockable rhythms, you can move on to the full management of a cardiac arrest.
This "virtual simulator" allows you to apply all the resuscitation principles previously studied (B1 and B3), as well as - and above all - the advanced resuscitation concepts, which are the main objective this year. Here again, you may repeat the scenario as many times as you wish.
C. A video briefing provides all the necessary information for the advanced cardiac arrest management workshops. It serves as a mandatory pre-briefing and must therefore be viewed carefully beforehand.
These three activities must be completed before the second in-person session, as these concepts will not be reviewed during the practicals but are expected to be applied there.
4° During the second in-person practical session, you will be required to perform a team-based advanced resuscitation, conduct systematic patient assessments using the SAMPLE method, and carry out a pediatric resuscitation.
5° To finalize this course, you must attend a session at the SEAR (Autonomous Resuscitation Training Station) to refine your techniques for vital function support (chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth ventilation) on both an adult and an infant manikin.
You may book an appointment at your convenience before the theoretical assessment and repeat the session as many times as you wish. Only your best scores will be recorded.
Each of the two CPR tests counts for 20 % of the final grade (i.e., 40 % in total).
