Learning unit contents
This course unit aims to enable students to engage in an academic or professional field in which they wish to further develop their expertise, discover new practices, and/or enhance their ability to work in a variety of contexts and with diverse populations.
Students are expected to develop a personal professional development project that is consistent with their educational background, previous experiences, current competencies, and the needs they identify in relation to their future practice as teachers of physical education and health.
The course unit comprises two complementary components:
- a preparatory and reflective pathway, completed progressively via the e-campus platform, enabling students to identify their development needs, define the characteristics of a relevant learning experience, explore different possibilities, and justify their choice;
- a practical component involving training, specialization, an internship, or participation in a scientific activity related to physical and sporting activities and/or the student's future professional practice.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The objective of this course unit is to encourage students to take an active role in their professional development by identifying their training needs and selecting an experience that can enrich their future practice as teachers of physical education and health.
By the end of this course unit, students will be able to:
- identify and clearly articulate their own professional development needs;
- analyse their educational background, experiences, and competencies in order to identify areas for further development;
- formulate specific personal development objectives that are consistent with their future professional practice;
- identify populations and/or contexts that may contribute to the development of the targeted competencies;
- define criteria for assessing the relevance of a training programme, internship, or other professional experience;
- research, document, and compare different training or experiential opportunities;
- select and justify an experience in relation to their professional development needs;
- engage in a training or field-based experience and identify the main learning outcomes resulting from it;
- reflect critically on the experience and consider how the learning gained can be transferred to their future professional practice.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
This course unit draws on the knowledge and competencies previously developed through subject-specific, didactic, and pedagogical coursework, as well as through field-based experiences.
Students are expected, in particular, to draw on their ability to:
- analyse their educational background and previous experiences;
- identify their strengths and professional development needs;
- establish links between a training experience and the requirements of the profession of physical education and health teacher;
- research and critically analyse information relating to training programmes, internships, or professional activities;
- adopt a reflective approach to their professional development.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course unit is based on a progressive approach combining personal reflection, information gathering, practical experience, and reflective analysis.
Activities include, in particular:
- the progressive completion of a preparatory pathway on e-campus;
- individual work analysing students' educational background and professional development needs;
- the formulation of personal development objectives;
- the identification of relevant populations and/or professional contexts;
- the development of criteria for assessing different training or internship opportunities;
- the research and comparison of several possible experiences;
- the justification of the selected experience;
- the completion of a practical experience;
- a reflective follow-up activity aimed at identifying the learning gained from the experience and considering its transfer to future professional practice.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Blended learning
Further information:
The course unit combines:
- preparatory and reflective activities carried out remotely via the e-campus platform;
- a practical experience selected by the student in accordance with their professional development project and approved in advance by the teaching team;
- a reflective follow-up activity enabling students to step back and reflect on their experience, identify the learning gained, and consider how it can be transferred to their future professional practice.

Continuous assessment
Further information:
The assessment is based on the completion of the activities planned as part of the course unit and on the student's ability to develop and analyse their professional development pathway.
It focuses in particular on the coherence of the approach, the relevance of the choices made, the student's engagement in the experience, and the quality of the reflection developed on the basis of that experience.
Successful completion of the course unit is also conditional upon the effective completion of the selected experience, as evidenced by the required supporting documents, as well as compliance with the organisational and administrative requirements of the course unit.
The specific assessment procedures, validation criteria, required supporting documents, and deadlines are communicated to students at the beginning of the course unit and via the e-campus platform.
