Key concepts in mathematics education, including Brousseau's Theory of Didactic Situations, the typology of mathematical problems, Vergnaud's Theory of Conceptual Fields, and Duval's theory of semiotic representation registers, among others.
Mathematical topics, including quantities, fractions, and statistics.
Study of the competency framework.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Upon completion of this course unit, students will be able to use problem solving as an entry point across all areas of mathematics in order to:
- identify difficulties related to the different areas of mathematics, particularly quantities and data handling (including stochastic concepts)
- address the difficulties identified in order to consolidate learning
- engage in a process of moving beyond existing practices and implementing differentiated instruction
- design effective and meaningful learning situations.
- demonstrate a thorough understanding of the mathematics taught from the first year of preschool (M1) to the second year of primary education (P2), as well as their epistemological foundations;
- demonstrate a sound understanding of didactic concepts for the purposes of didactic and epistemological analysis of teaching practices and learning environments;
- critically reflect on differentiation and personalised support;
- identify learning obstacles related to the knowledge and concepts at stake.
