Course description

This course aims to place learning about the structuring of time within a broader context, to examine the issues underlying the acquisition of this concept, and to develop future teachers' critical perspective on this learning process.
The course first emphasises the socio-cognitive issues surrounding the structuring of time and aims to raise awareness of the importance of working on the concept of time in the context of reducing educational inequalities. It then considers the development of a sense of time from a broader perspective, extending into adulthood. Finally, refocusing on pupils in pre-primary school and in the first two years of primary school, the teaching of historical time is examined through the lens of a critical analysis of the themes and teaching materials used with pupils.

Table of contents:

1. Constructing the concept of time: socio-cognitive issues and reducing educational inequalities.
2. Developing a sense of time over the long term.
3. Learning about historical time: a critical examination of themes and teaching materials.
