This course aims to develop the four linguistic skills, namely :
- oral expression
- written expression
- listening comprehension
- reading comprehension
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- To be able to express oneself orally in a coherent and syntactically correct manner.
- To be able to produce a grammatically correct written text.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
No prerequisites.
Students are divided into three groups according to their level.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Activities requiring constant student participation, training comprehension (reading, listening) and expression (written and oral). Grammar and vocabulary exercises are also included.

Additional information:
January assessment:
20%: written examination in January, including a writing task, a listening comprehension exercise, a reading comprehension exercise and vocabulary.
If the student obtains a grade below 10/20 in January, they will have to retake this part of the examination in June.
June assessment (80%, or 100% if the grade obtained in January is below 10/20):
80%: oral and written examination.
- 40%: oral examination based on the compulsory reading of Historia de una maestra by Josefina Aldecoa and De Melilla a Valencia, included in Historias robadas (at the end of the course syllabus and on eCampus).
- 40%: written examination including a listening comprehension exercise, a reading comprehension exercise, a writing task and vocabulary.
- 50%: oral examination based on the compulsory reading of the novels (see above).
- 50%: written examination (see above).
This Teaching Unit is subject to the absorbing grade principle, which means that if a grade below 8/20 is awarded for one of the Learning Activities (LAs), that grade becomes the overall grade for the Teaching Unit. Only the examination corresponding to the failed Learning Activity will have to be retaken during the second examination period.

The course is organised into three subgroups. Students are assigned to these groups during the first class. Students who are not present at the first class must subsequently contact the course instructors to find out which group they have been assigned to.
