Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The course aims to introduce students to the basic concepts of optimisation and operational research. The course will cover linear programming, integer programming problems, and both exact and heuristic solution algorithms.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
By the end of this module, students will be able to
- model an optimisation problem arising from real-world management applications as a linear and/or integer programming problem;
- select and apply a suitable algorithm to solve this problem;
- interpret the solutions obtained and draw managerial conclusions from them.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Basic linear algebra, an introduction to algorithms and programming.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, independent reading and projects.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
