Appropriate use of questionnaires
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand the value of standardized assessment tools and PROMs in physiotherapy practice and identify situations in which their use provides clinically relevant information.
- Know and select the main questionnaires and assessment tools used in physiotherapy, according to the clinical problem, the patient's characteristics, and the purpose of the assessment.
- Administer, score, and interpret questionnaire results in order to collect, analyze, and interpret relevant clinical information and integrate it into clinical reasoning.
- Understand and apply the main measurement properties of an assessment tool (validity, reliability, responsiveness to change, etc.) in order to critically appraise the selection and interpretation of a questionnaire.
- Integrate the selection and use of assessment tools into an evidence-based practice (EBP) approach, drawing on the available scientific evidence while taking into account clinical expertise and the individual patient's situation.
- Use PROMs to monitor patient progress and evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention, including the ability to distinguish between observed change, measurement error, and clinically meaningful change.
- Integrate questionnaire results with other clinical assessment findings in order to make decisions regarding the continuation of care and, when necessary, adjust, redirect, or discontinue the intervention.
