Learning unit contents

This course aims to develop and strengthen the language skills necessary for students to establish social contacts with Dutch speakers and work in a Dutch-speaking environment.

Content:

  • Analysis and role-playing of various professional situations;
  • A closer look at some nuances specific to Dutch;
  • A lecture by a Dutch-speaking guest speaker;
  • Opportunities to participate in an exchange with Dutch speakers, a company visit, or an excursion to Flanders or the Netherlands.
CEFRL levels of the course :

  • Listening B2+
  • Reading B2+
  • Speaking B2+
  • Lecturing B2+
  • Writing B2

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Competence to use Dutch business language in oral and written communication.

The course should allow students to be able to:

  • interact and actively participate in the workplace by using appropriate professional vocabulary: writing a job application and conducting a job interview, leading and participating in meetings, presenting projects and results, negotiating, communicating orally and in writing with customers and suppliers, taking part in (in)formal discussions with colleagues...
  • express oneself fluently both orally and in writing: summarize and comment on socioeconomic facts or situations related to the business world; present someone else's opinions and offer one's own views.
The student will have reached the B2+ level specified by the KLO and will also have developed the communication skills outlined in the competency framework. He or she will also have developed skills such as communication and adaptability. Indeed, this course will enable them to communicate easily about their company, their organization, and their project. Finally, this course will enable them to demonstrate critical thinking, scientific rigor, creativity, and independence in order to adapt to the needs of a constantly changing world.

It is strongly recommended not to use of artificial intelligence to truly acquire the skills listed above.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Mastery of everyday Dutch and average knowledge of business Dutch.

The  level required (B2/B2+ of the CEFRL) corresponds to the level reached after completion of Dutch 1, 2, and 3, taught in the bachelor.

The course aims to develop the four language skills related to business Dutch through a variety of oral exercises, reading documents, case studies, presentations, listening comprehension, and writing exercises.
