Learning unit contents
The Spanish 4 course aims to develop students' ability to use Spanish in academic and professional contexts through topics related to business, economics, and contemporary societal issues.
The twelve sessions cover topics including the world of work, artificial intelligence, corporate social responsibility, entrepreneurship, marketing, intercultural management, the platform economy, international trade, the labour market, and business ethics.
Particular emphasis is placed on the comprehension of authentic or adapted materials, the acquisition of professional vocabulary, oral communication, and argumentation skills. Grammar is reviewed and further developed in a targeted manner according to communicative needs.
The course is taught in Spanish.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The objective is for students to reach CEFR level B2+/C1- by the end of the course.
Students should, in particular, be able to:
- understand the main ideas of relatively complex materials dealing with business, economics, and current affairs;
- communicate with a good degree of fluency on topics related to their field of study and professional life;
- present and defend a point of view by developing a structured argument;
- participate actively in discussions, negotiations, and collective decision-making processes;
- use appropriate professional vocabulary and apply the grammatical structures studied with a sufficient degree of accuracy.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The course is intended for students who have successfully completed Spanish Level 3 at HEC Liège or who have otherwise attained CEFR level B1+, which corresponds to the minimum expected entry level for the course.
Students are expected to have a good command of the main grammatical structures of Spanish as well as a solid knowledge of general vocabulary.
Students who have not followed the Spanish language programme at HEC Liège may be required to provide evidence of their language proficiency. A placement test may also be organised where necessary.
