Learning unit contents

Students will be able to determine appropriate learning strategies for learners enrolled in literacy programs by raising their awareness of literacy and the specific difficulties they face; analyze various learning situations; formulate appropriate methodological principles; and determine specific actions for the initial learning of reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

 - Define, analyze, and appropriate literacy teaching methods; and integrate and master the main learning outcomes. EVRAS (Education for Sexual and Reproductive Health), media literacy, and the concept of gender will be explicitly addressed through informative and educational texts and documents.

 

Skills Developed - Analyze and critique teaching tools and authentic documents - Initiate learning situations to integrate knowledge, skills, and competencies in reading, writing, and numeracy strategies for students enrolled in literacy programs - Develop learning situations that enable the design of teaching scenarios and tools that activate reading and writing strategies in literacy programs. Interpersonal Skills Developed - Demonstrate rigor - Demonstrate openness and critical thinking - Mobilize knowledge and skills to produce reflection that contributes to the teacher's professional identity

Teaching methods: Lectures, group work (critical thinking and subject-specific teaching methods), analysis of authentic documents, analysis and creation of activities for practical application, analysis and use of writings by scientific researchers, critical analysis of existing tools and manuals, collaborative learning, formulation and comparison of initial ideas to build a shared framework, collaboration with the academic, non-profit, and/or cultural sectors as opportunities arise; independent reading.

Development of a literacy sequence or a specific program for a literacy learner. The work must be submitted in writing on the first day of the session. Written work = 100% of the course credit. The same conditions apply for the second session. For all assignments, any spelling, syntax, or grammar errors will be penalized by half a point, up to a maximum of 20% of the overall grade.
