Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
- Acquisition of a knowledge base
Students will acquire a knowledge base related to the principles, concepts and components of Quality Infrastructure (QI) as well as the main systems and approaches of quality management. Theoretical concepts will be systematically related to concrete situations encountered in the various professional contexts of bioengineering: companies, laboratories, design offices, public bodies, educational structures and sectors related to the production of goods and services.
Teaching will combine ex cathedra courses, intended to structure and consolidate knowledge, and professional seminars allowing students to confront the concepts discussed in class with the realities of the field. These testimonies will highlight the role of Quality Infrastructure and Quality Management in risk control, continuous improvement, regulatory compliance and organizational performance.
The speakers will come from diverse professional backgrounds, including the agri-food, forestry, pharmaceutical, and environmental sectors, in order to allow students to identify the common principles of Quality Infrastructure while discovering the diversity of their applications.
- Practical exercises during classes
These activities will include process mapping and analysis, identification of critical points, analysis of professional situations and discovery of the audit approach.
The exercises will be built from situations inspired by the professional world and will allow students to gradually mobilize theoretical concepts in a logic of problem-solving. They will also constitute preparation for the practical part of the written assessment.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the teaching unit, the student will be able to:
- explain the concepts, principles, and fundamental components of Quality Infrastructure;
- identify the main actors, tools, standards, and mechanisms involved in a quality system;
- relate the principles of Quality Infrastructure to concrete professional situations;
- represent and analyze a simple process by identifying its main steps, interactions, and control points;
- mobilize a quality reasoning approach to a given professional situation;
- identify the role of an audit in evaluating and improving a management system;
- understand the relationship between quality, safety, environment, regulatory requirements, and organizational performance.
An evaluation will attest to the assimilation and mobilization capacity of fundamental concepts related to Quality Infrastructure and Quality Systems.
These achievements will form a basis for the skill trajectories related to the control of safety, quality and environmental systems in the production chains of goods and services, as well as the implementation of operational standards and technical regulations in the various fields of activity of the bioengineer.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Basic knowledge of the bioengineer context.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
- Theoretical course (14h): acquisition and structuring of fundamental concepts of Quality Infrastructure and quality systems.
- Seminars / testimonials from quality professionals (6 h): putting concepts into perspective through feedback from different professional sectors.
- Practical activities (4 h): process analysis and mapping exercises, case studies, and scenarios linking theoretical concepts to professional practices.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face course
Further information:
In-person: theoretical courses, practical exercises, case studies and seminars with professionals.
The in-person session will be favored to foster interactions, exchanges with stakeholders, collaborative work, and simulation.
Course materials and recommended or required readings
Exam(s) in session
Any session
- In-person
written exam
Further information:
For all sessions, the evaluation is in-person and in writing.
Written assessment including multiple-choice questions, open-ended questions and practical exercises to assess both the mastery of knowledge and the ability to mobilize it in a given situation.
Work placement(s)
