Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

Study of the sedimentary part of the geological cycle.

  • Weathering
  • Transport
  • Deposition
  • Post-sedimentary evolution.
As a synthesis, the different processes are highlighted in the various environments of our planet.

Survey of the different families of sedimentary rocks and their constituents, with emphasis on the reconstruction of sedimentary environments.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The student has to be able to identify the different sedimentary process. A special attention is given to the recognition of sedimentary structures.

The second part of the course should allow the students to be able to describe and interpret sedimentary rocks into their sedimentary settings.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

General Geology

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The slides will be available on My ULg after each lecture.

Lectures with slides, movies and rock samples.Description and interpretation of different types of sedimentary structures based on rock samples. We will also work with pictures to identify sedimentary processes.
