Learning unit contents

The practical sessions held throughout the year will aim to introduce and put into practice:

the structure of a session and its various parts: the warm-up, the main part of the lesson, and the cool-down.
the basics of physical training (aerobic exercise, strength training, plyometrics, core stability, stretching, coordination, athletic training and injury prevention)
examples of fitness tests
practical examples of exercises tailored to specific objectives

These topics will be covered in a variety of ways throughout the year.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The student will be able to:

  • Gain practical experience of the basic concepts involved in structuring a training session, including physical conditioning (aerobic exercise, muscle development, coordination, flexibility, etc.) and strength training.
  • Experiment with different forms of aerobic training
  • Experiment with the main strength training exercises, identify the main muscle groups involved and the associated stretches
  • Carry out a series of physical fitness tests whilst understanding their purpose
  • Recognise the importance of physical fitness and the importance of regular exercise
  • Achieve a level of physical fitness appropriate to the profession
  • Carry out various activities that promote the development of physical fitness (plyometrics, skipping, an introduction to CrossFit, circuit training, etc.)
  • Try out exercises designed to prevent injuries
  • Adopt behaviours that are beneficial to one's health and physical well-being
  • Design a simple fitness training session based on a specific objective

For the practical course: comprehensive and continuous assessment based on:

  • performance in physical tests (aerobic fitness, vertical jump, flexibility, pull-ups, core strength, sprinting, agility)
  • results in various tests (skipping, skill drills, CrossFit)
  • the design and delivery of a physical training session
  • progress made over the course of the year
  • behaviour and motivation
  • attendance rate (if <70%, the student will not be eligible for a mark and will be considered absent).

A serious fail (<8/20) in the physical tests automatically results in a fail mark for the course as a whole.
