Learning unit contents

Description

The ARCH3332 course unit "Graphic Communication and Professionalisation" builds on the Communication and Construction course units (Basic Principles, Advanced Principles, Image and Digital). It aims to present the architect's complete mission, as defined by the Law of 20 February 1939 and detailed by the Ordre des Architectes, as a continuous exercise in communication, from design through to the publication of the work.

Aim

The course unit aims to:

  • Cover the full range of forms and media of communication used by the architect throughout their mission (design, construction, publication);
  • Master graphic communication as a specific professional language, from the preliminary sketch to the competition board and the portfolio;
  • Develop reasoned critique of communication (graphic, written, digital) around the architectural project.
Content

  • Design: communication with the client, graphic and regulatory communication (preliminary studies, outline design, detailed design, planning permit)
  • Construction: contractual and site communication (tendering, works contracts, execution), crisis management
  • Publication: architectural competitions, portfolio, press relations, professional identity and dissemination ethics

  • Produce, at each phase of the mission, the graphic document suited to its recipient.
  • Build the tools for your own professional integration;
  • Identify the ethical limits of the architect's communication.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

This course unit puts into practice the learning outcomes from the Communication and Construction course units (Basic Principles, Advanced Principles, Image and Digital), as well as from project management courses (the architect's complete mission, planning permit file, execution plans).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course unit is organised into 3 parts and 10 sessions of 4 hours.

The teaching activities combine:
