Contenus de l'unité d'enseignement

The course covers security of computer networks. It is composed of the following chapters:

  • End-point authentication
  • Securing applications (email)
  • Securing DNS (DNSSEC)
  • Securing TCP connections (SSL/TLS)
  • Network-layer Security (IPsec)
  • Securing routing (prefix filtering, RPKI, BGPsec)
  • Securing LANs (WiFi, switched Ethernet)
  • Anonymity (mixers, onion routing, TOR)

Acquis d'apprentissage (objectifs d'apprentissage) de l'unité d'enseignement

At the end of the course students will understand well the basic concepts of network security.

The projects bring out self-learning and team work capabilities, and help improve the writing skills of the students.

Teaching, and all support material, in English allow students to improve their knowledge and skills in this language.

Savoirs et compétences prérequis

  • Computer network architecture and protocols (TCP/IP, routing, switching)
  • Secret-key and public-key cryptography principles

Activités d'apprentissage prévues et méthodes d'enseignement

  • Lectures describing in detail the theoretical and practical concepts of the course.
  • Labs designed to explore selected concepts in greater depth and reinforce understanding.
  • Practical project assignments in groups of 2 students.

Mode d'enseignement (présentiel, à distance, hybride)

Cours donné exclusivement en présentiel

Informations complémentaires:

Theory is held in person. Projects are primarily carried out remotely.

Modalités d'évaluation et critères

Examen(s) en session

Toutes sessions confondues

- En présentiel

évaluation écrite

Travail à rendre - rapport

Informations complémentaires:

The assessment is based on two components: projects (40% weighting) and the oral theory exam (60%).

In the oral exam, students must be able to clearly and concisely present an aspect of the course and demonstrate, through their answers to sub-questions, a thorough understanding and connections to the rest of the course material. Students who have not completed these projects will not be allowed to take the oral exam.

The project assessment will focus on (1) the completeness of the software, (2) the quality of the programming, and (3) the quality of the report.

The second session is identical to the first, with the same weighting. Students are permitted to improve their projects.

Stage(s)

Remarques organisationnelles et modifications principales apportées au cours

Le cours est organisé au second quadrimestre, les mardis de 8h30 à 12h30. Cours enseigné en anglais.
