Learning unit contents
This theoretical and reflective course offers a critical introduction to the practical and ethical challenges of AI. It is designed for first-year translation and interpreting students (B1) and has no technical prerequisites.
The course aims to :
- Tackle fears, preconceptions, and clichés about AI;
- Raise awareness of current practical and ethical challenges posed by AI, particularly in the translation industry;
- Highlight the benefits and limitations of AI tools ;
- Promote a reflective and critical approach to these technologies.
À ce qui précède s'ajoute, pour les étudiant.es de première année en Traduction-Interprétation ainsi que les répétantes ayant obtenu moins de 45 crédits au terme de l'année 2024-2025, un Séminaire de première année (ou First-Year Seminar) obligatoire. Learning outcomes of the learning unit
By the end of the course sessions, students will:
- Have developed a critical understanding of the practical and ethical challenges of AI, in translation and in other fields;
- Be able to take a stance on concrete AI applications or current debates related to AI;
- Be able to analyse the direct and indirect implications of these applications;
- Be equipped to consider relevant and responsible AI applications.

Si l'étudiante utilise l'intelligence artificielle*, il ou elle devra alors renseigner précisément son usage de l'IA dans une section dédiée : outil utilisé, prompt, type d'aide demandée (reformulation, synthèse, analyse, correction linguistique, etc...), résultats obtenus.
*Par « IA », nous entendons les moteurs de traduction automatique (DeepL, GoogleTraduction...) et les agents conversationnels (ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, DeepSeek, etc.), ainsi que tout autre outil d'IA permettant de rédiger, synthétiser, analyser des données, etc.

En 2025-2026, les étudiant.es de première année en Traduction-Interprétation sont tenu.es de s'inscrire à un Séminaire de première année obligatoire. Il s'agit d'un dispositif d'accompagnement au processus d'adaptation à l'environnement universitaire prenant la forme de petits cours, ayant pour but de créer des liens sociaux, de développer de premières compétences universitaires et/ou de découvrir un aspect inattendu de votre filière à travers des contenus disciplinaires ciblés.
