Learning unit contents
In order to optimise the production of commented translations (demonstrating the students' skills in terms of contrastive linguistic analysis and, in particular, their ability to synthesise the main specificities of / structural differences between French and English), we will focus on a corpus of thematically and stylistically varied texts, which will be translated and commented upon (at home and collectively).
The course also includes an introduction to the field of Translation Studies.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The course intends to deepen the students' ability to compare the syntactic structure of English and French, and to enhance the idiomaticity of their language.
By the end of the course, they should be able not only to produce a commented translation (into a foreign language), but also to reflect on translation as an activity and on their own position as translators.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Excellent command of the French and English languages.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Students will be asked to translate various texts at home. These individual translations will then be corrected and commented upon collectively.
The course will also offer an introduction to the field of Translation Studies.

In groups of three, students will have to give a presentation on a theoretical article concerned with Translation Studies during this term (which will account for 20% of the exam).
