Learning unit contents
The course consists in translations from English into French of texts related to the students' fields of specialisation (history, Latin and Greek civilisation...). Special attention will be given to specific grammatical and lexical difficulties.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
One of the main objectives of this course is to help students to read specialized academic texts by drawing their attention to the lexical, grammatical but also syntactic specificities of the English language. The course will also teach them how to use a French/English dictionary more efficiently.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Basic knowledge of written English.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Translation of texts related to the fields classical or Middle Eastern culture and history. Specific grammar problems will be tackled in a contrastive perspective.

Further information:
Written exam consisting in the translation from English into French of a text that has not been translated in class. Students will be allowed to use a dictionary. The use of a machine translation or chatbot system is strictly forbidden.
The mark of the midterm exam in January will count for 10% of the June final grade if > or = 10/20 (the mark will have no effect on the final grade if it doesn't reach 10/20).
