Learning unit contents
Teaching placements are essential steps in the gradual acquisition of professional teaching skills. These training periods also offer students the opportunity to discover different types of teaching, different pedagogical approaches and a variety of upper secondary school audiences.
Students must be fully committed to preparing lessons and carrying out the activities assigned to them. Trainees undertake, in writing, to respect the institution, their supervising teacher and the pupils, both morally and pedagogically. Any breach of these commitments may result in the internship being terminated.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of this internship, future graduates will be expected to build on the knowledge acquired in Part I. For example, students will be able to plan an internship, prepare a complete lesson, deliver the course, reflect on their practice with a view to improving it, and set personal goals for the future of their practice in their professional life.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Active participation in the theoretical course (ZENS0225).
A good knowledge of the basic discipline (chemistry) (level equivalent to a bachelor's degree in chemistry) is indispensible.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
During the subject-specific teaching methodology classes (ZENS0225), students participate in the development of teaching sequences for their teaching placements, taking into account the requests and topics chosen.
The Wednesday sessions of the ZENS0225 course, devoted to subject-specific teaching, provide an opportunity to address the essential aspects of the active teaching placement and to link theory with classroom practice.
During the teaching placement, the placement supervisor supports the student in developing their professional practice. The teaching specialists meet with this placement supervisor during assessment visits, when they review progress with the student and the supervisor.
Organised into subject-specific or interdisciplinary groups, the AFPs aim to develop students' reflective skills before, during and after a teaching placement.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face course

Other : Internship visit by the teaching team and evaluation of the internship supervisor.
Further information:
During the placements, students will benefit from at least one visit from the teaching team associated with this course. The purpose of these visits is to identify the working environment, difficulties and strengths, as well as progress in the teaching profession (building professional identity). Depending on availability and after the observed lesson, students will have the opportunity to discuss any difficulties or questions with the assessor, in the presence of the internship supervisor if possible. The minimum internship requirements will be available on eCampus.
Each student will be required to submit a portfolio. The details will be specified during the ZENS0225 course. This will include, for example: planning with the topics and methodologies worked on, preparations for each internship period, and a retrospective analysis of each lesson taught. These records will also be used during the reflective AFPs after the internships.
The mark for this Part II internship will be based on the marks awarded by the course teaching team during their visit and the assessment of the internship supervisor.
Participation in the AFPs is compulsory. Except in cases of force majeure assessed by the course leaders, two absences (whether justified or not) will result in a mark of absence for the AFPs.
There will be no second session for the placements, and a mark below 10/20 may result in the student being deferred for this partim.
A sufficient command of the chemistry concepts related to the teaching issues addressed during the placements is a prerequisite for obtaining an overall mark of 10/20 or higher.
The internship supervision carried out by the General Teaching Department team can take two forms: an in-person visit to the classroom or an analysis of the lesson based on a video made by the student. At the end of the internship, students must submit a self-assessment report. A document containing detailed information will be provided to students on eCampus.
An AFP session will be devoted to self-heteroscopy. Students will therefore be required to make a video during their internship and obtain the necessary authorisations to do so. A document containing specific information will be provided to students on eCampus.
