Learning unit contents

This course aims to make the students familiar with the concepts of risk, whistle-blower, precautionary principle and governmentality.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The aim of this course is

- to give to the students the opportunity to discuss concepts such as "risk society" and "modernity",

- and to provide examples of how political institutions in Blegium engage with these issues.

Further information:

The evaluation will consist of an oral examination during which:

  • The student will be asked two questions related to the course content, in order to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the concepts and examples discussed in class.

  • The student must bring a news article related to a current event that connects with the course themes, particularly how risks-or a specific risk-are addressed from a socio-political perspective by societal actors and/or the journalist. The student will present the news item and explain its relevance to the course in a 5-minute presentation.
