Learning unit contents
Qualitative research aims to study the nature, quality, and meaning of human experience through the exploration of people's discourses and narratives, or through observation in natural settings.
The course focuses on presenting qualitative research, highlighting its diversity of approaches and methods (phenomenology, grounded theory, narrative research, reflexive thematic analysis, etc.). Throughout the semester, students will work on a project that engages with the different dimensions of qualitative research: problem formulation, development of an interview guide, conducting an interview, interview analysis, and reflexivity.

- Situate qualitative research within a paradigmatic framework and in the history of humanities and social sciences
- Frame a research project with a problem-focused approach
- Understand the different approaches and methods of analysis in qualitative research
- Design an interview guide
- Apply strategies and techniques for research interviews
- Produce a reflexive thematic analysis of empirical data
- Consider the ethical issues in qualitative research
- Communicate the results of a qualitative study
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Lessons require a very good level of the French language.
