The book on the program is Capital: Volume 1 by Karl Marx. The course has two objectives:

To read, discuss, and interpret the text of Volume 1
To evaluate the relevance of Marx's critical tool in light of the evolution of capitalism and its current form

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Tunderstand the context, the philosopher's thought and the book, and also the philosophical issues involved by this book

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Good level of philosophical knowledge; basic knowledge of the fundamental ideas of Marx and Marxism.

(1) PUF, Collection Quadrige, 1993 (1st ed. 1983);

(2) Éditions sociales, 2022 (1st ed. 2016).

As the numbering in (2) refers to (1), students may choose the edition of their choice.
