Learning unit contents

This EU consists of six separate components (= seminars):

  • Teaching and learning throughout the core curriculum (linked to courses PEDA4045, PEDA4047 or PEDA4027)
  • Practical issues in conducting training (linked to course PEDA4060)
  • Introduction to the use of digital technology in education (linked to the PEDA4032 course)
  • Issues and practices in early childhood education (linked to the PEDA0069 course)
  • Analysis of teaching processes (PEDA1051)
  • Current issues in higher education pedagogy (PEDA4051)
The common objective of these various seminars is to place students in practical situations, introduce them to a variety of professional contexts, and involve them in concrete activities related to the theoretical courses associated with the seminars.

The specific content will be presented at the first session of each seminar.

Teaching and learning within the core curriculum

For this part of the seminar, students must follow the section corresponding to the course they have chosen: "Teaching and learning literacy throughout the core curriculum"; "Teaching and learning mathematics throughout the core curriculum - Focus on problem solving"; or "Teaching and learning science throughout the core curriculum."

The content covered in the seminar will be related to that developed in these three courses.

Introduction to the use of digital technology in education

The seminar aims to involve students in practical activities that enable them to learn how to use digital tools in training situations and connect to the FWB's digital education ecosystem.

Issues and practice around early years education

The seminar aims to engage students in practical activities that foster the appropriation of evaluation approaches and comparative judgment methods, in order to better grasp the expectations of the report and the practices of early childhood education and care (ECEC) services.

Assignments - Report

Attendance at each seminar activity is compulsory except in cases of force majeure, as assessed by each seminar leader.
The various seminars will not be organised in a second session; only students who have participated in all activities but have not met the assessment requirements (not submitted or failed) will have the opportunity to attend a second session.

Assessment methods vary depending on the seminar. For information purposes, they may take the following forms: participation in practical activities, oral presentation, resource development, surprise report, etc. The specific methods will be presented at the first session of each seminar.

Each seminar leader will award a mark to the student based on the assessment specified at the beginning of the seminar. The overall mark for the EU will correspond to the average of the marks obtained in each seminar, provided that a minimum of 10/20 has been obtained in each seminar. If at least one mark is below 10/20, the student will receive a mark of 0/20 for the EU. However, they will only have to retake the assessments for the seminars in which they failed; the marks for the seminars in which they passed will be retained.
