Learning unit contents

The aim of this course is to familiarise students with the various concepts that structure science teaching and learning, as well as the main findings of research in this field.

The course covers the following topics, among others:

  • The image of science and concepts related to its teaching/learning
  • Scientific investigation
  • Language practices in science: written and oral language
  • Graphic expression and modelling in science
  • Inequalities and learning difficulties in science
  • Outdoor schooling and school trips in science
  • Critical thinking and scientific investigation

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Students will master the main didactic concepts that underpin science teaching and learning. They will be able to take a step back from current science teaching practices and use the didactic tools and concepts covered in teaching and/or teacher training. They will be able to analyse and evaluate student learning in different teaching contexts.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course si structured around a combination of practical activities carried out by students ant theoretical explanations. As a result, participation in the course is strongly recommended.
