Learning unit contents
This course aims to provide students with the necessary foundations to understand the important role of physical activity and the priority that should be given to promoting an active lifestyle. Several topics are covered:
- Impact of physical activity.
- Recommendations for physical activity.
- How to measure PA.
- Participation in physical and sports activities.
- Motivation to exercise (theories of motivation, determinants of exercise).
- Barriers to exercise, dropping out, channel surfing.
- Accessibility to sports activities.
- Promotion of physical activity.
- Physical literacy.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Physical activity is one of the elements associated with a healthy lifestyle. It is therefore important that future graduates in Motor Sciences understand the fundamental role they should play in combating sedentary lifestyles.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Content of previous specific courses is a good prerequisite.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Several practical sessions are planned. These enable students to establish links between theory and its practical implications. Depending on circumstances, students may be involved in fieldwork, which can provide them with valuable practical experience.

A written exam is organized in January and is based on open ended questions concerning all chapters. Moreover, works done during the semester are assessed and contribute to the final mark.
