Learning unit contents

At the end of this course, the student will be able to:

- Describe physiological pregnancy and its normal course.

- Understand basic antenatal care.

- Identify and manage the main obstetric pathologies, including:

  • Pre-existing maternal pathologies.
  • Foetal pathologies.
  • Maternal pathologies acquired during pregnancy.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this learning unit, the student will be able to:

  • Carry out the follow-up of a physiological pregnancy through its different stages.

  • Screen for pre-existing maternal conditions likely to affect the course of pregnancy and propose appropriate monitoring strategies to prevent complications.

  • Detect maternal and foetal pathologies arising during pregnancy and identify the main therapeutic options.

  • Apply a clinical reasoning process, progressing from symptom to diagnosis and from diagnosis to the management of pregnancy-related conditions.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

This course follows the learning of normal humans and general principles of pathology in the Genital Module (SEXL0120) in BAC Medicine. The Gynecological Pathologies and Urological Pathologies course are ideally co-required, as are the internships and clinical reasoning training in the first semester of block 1 of the master's degree.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

This teaching is multidisciplinary. It includes a majority of theoretical courses, supplemented by sessions of practical activities such as Apprenticeship in Clinical Reasoning or clinical teaching, often in smaller groups. The courses are included under another course code and complete the learning of diagnosis with an approach centered on the patient and her baby
