Internship in physical and health education (part 1)

Observation internship

As part of the observation internship (OI), students will be required to carry out three types of activities:

• Attend an information evening (presentation of the OI guidelines and an introduction to vocational teaching with external guests).
  
  
• Complete two half-day observations in secondary schools, one in general education and the other in vocational education. For the half-day in general education, students will follow a class of pupils for half a day. For the half-day in vocational education, two formats will be offered and explained during the first session of the multidisciplinary AFP. During these observation sessions, students will also be invited to interview an experienced teacher and conduct a brief survey with the students.
  
  
• Participate in a debriefing session for the OI.
  
  

Teaching internship A

These sessions, focused on practice, draw both on experiences gained during the internship and on targeted refresher activities. They aim to strengthen students' professional skills through concrete activities involving reflection, analysis, and application.

Several concepts are revisited:

• The role of physical education within the school curriculum.
  
  
• The objectives of the physical education course.
  
  
• Terminal competencies.
  
  
• The organization of physical education in secondary schools (analysis of competencies and programs).
  
  
• Different approaches to teaching physical education.
  
  
• The use of digital tools.
  
  
• Classroom management, emotional management in physical education, and principles of motivation.
  
  
• The concept of physical literacy, the societal anchoring model, etc.
  
  
• Any other concepts useful for future physical education teachers.

Develop an initial reflective perspective on the teaching profession based on the observations made and the information gathered from the various stakeholders interviewed.

Teaching internship A

The exchange and supervision sessions, organized between internship periods and supervised by the instructors, are based on the general principles of physical education teaching. They draw on concepts acquired in courses such as Foundations of Intervention as well as on the various pedagogical training activities previously completed. These sessions aim to gradually prepare students for their future profession as physical education teachers.

The internships are designed to prepare students for the autonomous and effective management of a class.

Teaching internship B

The exchange and supervision sessions, organized between internship periods and supervised by the instructors, are based on the general principles of physical education teaching. They draw on concepts acquired in courses such as Foundations of Intervention as well as on the various pedagogical training activities previously completed. These sessions aim to gradually prepare students for their future profession as physical education teachers.

The internships are designed to prepare students for the autonomous and effective management of a class.

Teaching internship A

This course draws on concepts covered throughout their training and also builds on the students' practical experiences.
All the specific courses in the initial training program in Physical Education/Motor Sciences provide the foundation upon which this course is built.

Teaching internship B

This course draws on concepts covered throughout their training and also builds on the students' practical experiences.
All the specific courses in the initial training program in Physical Education/Motor Sciences provide the foundation upon which this course is built.

Observation internship

Two in-person sessions: an information session (2 hours) and a debriefing session of the OI (3 hours), conducted as multidisciplinary small-group work.

Teaching internship A

The exchange and supervision sessions, organized between internship periods and supervised by the instructors, include various activities such as individual and group reflection, co-analysis of teaching practices, feedback on experiences, and other activities designed to deepen and enrich the learning gained from internships.

Regarding the internships, the activities take place in schools under the guidance of a mentor teacher.

Teaching internship B

The exchange and supervision sessions, organized between internship periods and supervised by the instructors, include various activities such as individual and group reflection, co-analysis of teaching practices, feedback on experiences, and other activities designed to deepen and enrich the learning gained from internships.

Regarding the internships, the activities take place in schools under the guidance of a mentor teacher.

Further information:

• The OI is assessed on a "Completed" / "Not Completed" basis and will not receive a grade.
  
  
• If the OI is "Not Completed," it will prevent the student from obtaining a grade for the course "Stage Partim 1."
  
  

• Participate in the OI debriefing session (see "Continuous Assessment");
  
  
• Provide proof of completion of the OI by submitting the certificates for the two half-day observations (see "Other" above).

Assessment is based on the performance demonstrated throughout the various internships, the reports from mentor teachers, the reports from supervisors, and the students' level of engagement.

An evaluation rubric is provided to students so that they can prepare to meet the required criteria.

Students are also reminded of the importance of complying with administrative requirements, with any failure to do so being subject to sanction.

The assessment methods are presented to students on the first day of class.
