Learning unit contents

As current guidelines advocate evidence-based practice (EBP) management, this course will address this approach to physiotherapy management.
This course will also develop critical thinking skills, learn about the qualities of a good scientific study and how to obtain quality information.
These elements are essential for all health professionals given the amount of information available today and the need to be able to find reliable sources of information and to analyse the information provided.
 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Knowledge

 

At the end of the course unit, the student will be able to:

-Explain the purpose and define the fundamental principles of Evidence-Based Practice and its three pillars.

-Describe the steps of the EBP process.

-Describe the evidence pyramid.

-Identify the main sources of relevant scientific information in physiotherapy (databases, journals, guidelines).

-Explain the key elements to analyze in order to interpret the relevance/reliability of new information.

-Explain the main biases in a study.

 

Skills

At the end of the course unit, the student will be able to:

-Identify quality websites/platforms to find reliable medical information.

-Critically analyze and interpret new information.

-Position the quality of information within the evidence pyramid.

-Analyze the different factors that may explain a patient's improvement following treatment.
