Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The course, which requires active participation from students, will focus on the expression of gender in the Italian language, considered from various disciplinary perspectives (linguistics - particularly morphology - sociolinguistics, and so-called "popular" linguistics).

It will therefore address the relationship between norms and usage, variation, types of norms (standard vs. substandard), representations, language policies, and linguistic ideologies.

The course aims to enable students to understand the issues at stake in contemporary linguistic debate and to report on them with rigour and nuance.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- report on the issue addressed according to different approaches
- define the main concepts and notions considered
- use these notions and concepts appropriately
- report on different points of view
- analyse a text that is part of a contemporary debate

in Italian, both orally and in writing.
