Learning unit contents

  • the parameters of the fields of phonology, morphosyntactic;
  • the inventorising and classification of basic operational relationships at each surveyed level;
  • the characterisation of classes of elements.
The practical part of the course will familiarise students with the concepts covered in the theory course and will assign exercises. Data from other languages will also be used as illustrative materials.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

By the end of the course, students will be able to demonstrate understanding and knowledge of the basic concepts of phonology and morphosyntax covered in the class, and ability to correlate previously acquired grammatical notions to these concepts. Students will also be able to identify phenomena that remain problematic wrt. this analysis framework.

Further information:

Written examination (100%).

The mark of the midterm exam in January will count for 25% of the June final grade if > or = 10/20 (the mark will have no effect on the final grade if it doesn't reach 10/20).

Significant deficiencies in language proficiency will result in a grade below 8/20.

Significant deficiencies in grammatical analysis (prerequisites) will automatically result in a symbolic grade of 5/20. Mastery of these prerequisites is assessed in connection with the course during the examination sessions (May/June and August/September). If the prerequisites are not mastered, the remainder of the examination will not be taken into account in the calculation of the final grade.

Unless specifically authorized (ESH), students are only allowed to make use of a paper non-encyclopedic dictionnary during the examinations; they cannot benefit from any other external help. The use of smartphones, connected watches and similar connected items is strictly forbidden. Consequently, the use of AI tools is also strictly forbidden.
